Fabulous T-Birds to Liven Up Fair

Tired of watching Mike Wallace make a monkey out of some poor sucker? Don’t care about the latest trauma involving those Bundys? Already seen “The Prisoner” episode on the Sci-Fi Channel? Here’s a rockin’ bluesy alternative to Sunday night television. The Fabulous Thunderbirds will be shaking up that Budweiser Stage at the Ventura County Fair for two shows--at 7 p.m. and again at 9 p.m.
Goleta local Kim Wilson, T-Bird’s vocalist, moved to Austin and founded the band in 1974 with guitarist Jimmie Vaughan. Stevie Ray’s brother is long gone from the band as is his replacement, Duke Robillard. Which leaves the T-Birds as a quartet. Kid Bangham is the band’s reigning guitar god these days. This band has, seemingly, been on that endless tour forever. They did, however, start off 1993 with a memorable gig, playing at the Inaugural Ball.
The T-Birds, beginning with 1982’s “T-Bird Rhythm,” had a string of hit albums due in no small part to their famous producers, Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe, a couple of Englishmen who know a lot about American roots music. The most recent effort was a greatest hits album last year.
