Caltrans will sponsor a lunchtime ride-sharing festival in front of Pasadena City Hall today to celebrate the opening of the new High-Occupancy Vehicle car-pool lane on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway.
The 17-mile car-pool lane extends from Sunflower Avenue in Glendora to Lake Avenue in Pasadena and is part of a 300-mile HOV network to be in place across the state by the year 2000, Caltrans spokesman Russell Snyder said. To travel in the HOV lane, a car must have two or more passengers.
Food, entertainment, a natural gas-powered vehicle and representatives from Caltrans and Foothill Transit will be at the festival from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Centennial Square in front of Pasadena City Hall, 100 N. Garfield Ave.
