A medical clinic was destroyed early Wednesday by a fire that had apparently been set, police said.
The blaze at Clinica de Estrella, a walk-in clinic at Slauson and Seville avenues, burned medical records, equipment and cabinets containing medicine, police said. The clinic was unoccupied when the blaze broke out at 1 a.m.
Several neighboring businesses--including a stereo outlet, a toy store and a beauty salon--were partially burned and suffered extensive water damage, Huntington Park Detective Tony Porter said. Damage to the clinic and neighboring businesses was estimated at $500,000.
Fire investigators found a half-empty gasoline can on the clinic’s roof, Porter said. There are no suspects, he added.
