Republican to Chair Federal Election Panel

WASHINGTON — The Federal Election Commission’s newest member, Republican Trevor Potter, was elected chairman of the six-member panel Wednesday.
He succeeds Scott E. Thomas, a Democrat. Commission members elect a new chairman to a one-year term every December. Danny Lee McDonald, a Democrat, was elected vice chairman, succeeding Potter.
The commission oversees compliance with laws regulating how campaign dollars are raised and spent.
