LOS ANGELES : State’s Quake Damage Estimate to Be Delayed

A spokesman for Gov. Pete Wilson said Monday the state’s estimate of total damage from the Northridge earthquake, which the governor said would be announced by now, has been delayed.
“This is a huge disaster,” said Paul Kranhold, a gubernatorial press aide. “New things keep popping up all the time. We will have the damage estimate as soon as we can, probably sometime later this week. It’s a big job. We had a huge aftershock last week. Now we have bad weather.”
The governor said earlier he believed that quake damage would run between $15 billion and $30 billion and that a more exact estimate would be made by Monday.
