Police Seeking Man Who’s Made Dozens of ‘Fantasy’ Obscene Calls

NEWPORT BEACH — As Valentine’s Day approaches, the telephone pitch seems more plausible: The caller asks for the women by name, telling them he’s been hired by their husbands or boyfriends, whose names he also knows, to take them on a “fantasy.”
But after discussing breathing and relaxation techniques, the caller’s conversations take a sexually explicit turn.
Newport Beach police are attempting to identify the man, who has made about 50 obscene phone calls to women in the area in the past year. They have released an audiocassette of the man’s voice in an effort to apprehend him. Irvine police have received similar complaints.
The caller apparently gets the names of the women and men from membership rosters of civic groups operating in the Orange County area, according to Newport Beach Police Sgt. Andy Gonis.
Making an obscene phone call is a misdemeanor, punishable by up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine. Anyone with information regarding the man’s identity is asked to call the Newport Beach Police Department at (714) 644-3717.
