PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP : Carlson Leads Irvine Past Newport Harbor

Luke Carlson had 16 kills and nine blocks to lead unranked Irvine to a five-game victory over No. 5 Newport Harbor in a Sea View League boys’ volleyball match Friday at Irvine.
Mark Ramirez had 12 kills for the Vaqueros (7-5, 6-4), who won 12-15, 15-6, 15-8, 5-15, 15-12. Mitch McCoy had 35 kills and Wes Badorek had nine kills and eight blocks for the Sailors (10-3, 9-1), who remained in first.
In other Sea View League matches:
Corona del Mar 3, University 0--Sophomore outside hitter Brian Coleman had 11 kills and 10 digs for Corona del Mar (10-2, 8-2) in the 15-8, 15-11, 16-14 victory. Sophomore teammate Derek Newcomer had 17 assists and middle blocker John Coon had four service aces and four kills.
Tustin 3, Saddleback 0--Josh Rasmussen had 12 kills to lead Tustin (8-4, 7-3). Aaron Kraus had four blocks and Danny Tcheng had three aces for the Tillers.
Woodbridge 3, Santa Margarita 0--Brian Gee had 15 kills for host Woodbridge (6-6, 6-4), which won, 15-12, 15-2, 16-14.
In the Olympic League:
Calvary Chapel 3, Capistrano Valley Christian 0--Philip Schildts had 16 kills and Aaron Fountain had 15 for eighth-ranked Calvary Chapel (10-0, 6-0), which won, 15-11, 15-13, 15-8.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 3, Mater Dei 1--Bob Hefty had 17 kills and Neil Hewko 16 for sixth-ranked Dana Hills (8-3, 4-2), which won, 15-3, 15-9, 5-15, 16-14.
In the Empire League:
Esperanza 3, El Dorado 0--Jason Klems had 18 kills to lead Esperanza (10-2, 6-0), which won 15-2, 15-9, 15-6.
Valencia 3, Western 0--Joe Reynoza had 24 kills and Jason Miele added 15 for Valencia (8-5, 4-2), which won, 15-10, 15-6, 15-13. Center Matt Geissman had 46 assists.
In the Express League:
St. Margaret’s 3, Long Beach Gethsemane Baptist 0--Jason Loewen had 20 kills for host St. Margaret’s (6-6, 5-1), which won, 15-12, 15-7, 15-5.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Beach 3, Laguna Hills 0--Dan Styles had 13 kills for No. 2 Laguna Beach (9-0, 6-0), which won, 15-1, 15-4, 15-1.
