VOCAL BREAK: Jeff Charroux, lead singer of the band Ultra Violet Eye, is sitting in for Greta’s Paul Plagens on Greta’s current East Coast tour while Plagens completes his recovery program at a Los Angeles-area substance abuse rehabilitation center.
“We assumed the band wouldn’t be able to do the tour,” says Mercury Records’ Mike Sikkas, East Coast senior director of A&R.; “On a creative level, it didn’t really fly . . . but after considerable discussion--and Paul was in the loop on all of this--rather than disrupt the momentum and have the whole band victimized, we chose to continue with the tour.”
Plagens hopes to rejoin Greta, which created such a buzz on the Los Angeles rock scene in 1992 that it became the object of a major record company bidding war, for scheduled dates with Motorhead beginning next Sunday.
