Don’t Cater to Last-Minute Tax Filers
* Re “Tax Time Tribulations,” April 15: I see that the U.S. post offices in both Orange and Los Angeles counties provided special service for those filing last-minute tax returns by remaining open in some cases until midnight.
As a responsible citizen, I find this unfair to the millions of other law-abiding and punctual citizens of this area.
With the price of postage on a steady rise, and the cost in overtime pay and other operating budget expenses, I feel that it is unfair to the majority of taxpayers to support those persons who are either too negligent or too selfish in filing their returns (at the last minute). This is just another I reason why the cost of public services is constantly on the upswing.
