Protect Laguna Chairman Sets Record Straight

* I want to correct some misinformation printed in a letter to the editor from Steve Bridges (April 17), in which he attempted to link a new community organization, Protect Laguna, with other groups.
Protect Laguna is not affiliated with United Laguna, Laguna Taxpayers, Village Laguna or any other political organization.
We will cooperate with and welcome participation by other groups and individuals who want Laguna to be free of divisiveness, blaming and partisan bickering, and who will insist on fiscal responsibility from city leaders, emphasize public safety, support healthy activity outlets for kids, have respect for diversity and continue the general plan policies of environmental preservation.
Our steering committee and supporters believe that these issues are primary in the minds and hearts of Lagunans and can be pursued without the animosity, division and political opportunism that have been so prevalent over the past few months.
This city has undergone a horrendous tragedy after which most of us have acted generously and with compassion toward those who lost their homes.
The majority of citizens who live in our beautiful village are known for those qualities, and Protect Laguna only wants to keep and enhance that image and reality of life here.
Specific policy decisions, such as the reservoir, are best made in an atmosphere of calm and rational debate, not finger-pointing and looking backward.
BIVENS HUNT
Chairman, Protect Laguna
