Parks and Recreation Commission

Where: City Council Chambers, 27801 La Paz Road
What: The commission will discuss a “dog park” proposal. The park, which would include a fence, benches, restrooms and drinking fountains, could cost $90,000. It probably would be installed on vacant land next to Fire Station No. 49 on Street of the Golden Lantern.

Orange
Orange Unified School District
When: Today at 6 p.m.
Where: Education Center, 1401 N. Handy St.
What: The Board of Education and the superintendent will meet to work out a strategic plan for the 1994-95 school year. The district is facing a shortfall in reserve funds, an aging bus fleet, dissatisfied teachers and elementary schools on the east side of the district that are badly overcrowded.

Huntington Beach
City Council
When: Today at 6:30 p.m.
Where: City Council Chambers, 2000 Main St.
What: A public hearing to consider a proposed ordinance that sets business license fees for outdoor and indoor swap meets, special and charitable events. If approved, the estimated increase in revenue is $200,000 per year. A public hearing is also scheduled to review compliance of conditions in a special-use permit for Niccole’s Restaurant, 520 Main St., to re-establish live entertainment.

La Habra
City Council
When: Thursday at 7 p.m.
Where: City Council Chambers, 201 E. La Habra Blvd.
What: The council is expected to decide whether to renew the entertainment permit of the Casbah bar, which seeks to continue offering live dance performances. The Casbah sued earlier this year when the city required the bar to hire uniformed security guards when dancers perform. The court ruled in favor of the city, requiring the bar to hire the guards.

Seal Beach
City Council
When: Today at 7 p.m.
Where: City Council Chambers, 211 8th St.
What: Council members will appoint five community members to an ad hoc committee that will monitor prospects for the closure of the Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station and Los Alamitos Armed Forces Reserve Center.
