DOWNEY : Council OKs Reduction of Fee on Water Bill
- Share via
The City Council has reduced water bills for homeowners by 95 cents.
Officials approved the reduction in a $1.90 fee that had been added to bimonthly water bills in 1990 to help finance the city’s expanded recycling program.
The council also reduced bimonthly fees for apartment units and businesses from 90 cents to 45 cents. The reductions took effect last month.
The special tax generated about $400,000 a year for waste-management consultants, studies and barrel purchases, said Lee Powell, assistant city manager. The reduced levy is expected to generate about $200,000 a year.
