SANTA ANA — A 19-year-old Santa Ana man died Tuesday night after being shot in the head earlier in the day in what police suspect is a gang-related attack, authorities said.
Jaime Lopez was driving with an unidentified relative on Hawley Street when another car with at least two people in it pulled up behind it and opened fire with a handgun around 8:30 a.m., according to Lt. Jose Garcia of the Santa Ana Police Department.
The suspects fired several shots, one of which struck Lopez in the head, Garcia said. Lopez made it to Sullivan Street and 5th Street before crashing his car, Garcia said.
Paramedics transported Lopez to UCI Medical Center in Orange, where he was placed on life support systems Tuesday morning, Garcia said.
Police have no clear motive in the shooting, but believe the assailants are gang members, Garcia said.
