BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : AROUND THE MAJORS : Randy Johnson Misses Start Today
- Share via
The pain in Randy Johnson’s shoulder isn’t getting any better and the soreness has forced Seattle’s pitching ace to miss his scheduled start today against Oakland.
Bill Krueger will start in place of the Mariners’ all-star, who will undergo an examination by team doctors Monday in Seattle.
Johnson (11-2), who has thrown four complete games, including two shutouts, is leading the AL in strikeouts with 195 and batters are hitting a league-low .217 against him. However, Johnson said the shoulder has been bothering him for some time.
“It’s frustrating, obviously, but I can’t keep going out there and pitch the way I’ve been pitching,” Johnson said. “If it needs rest now, I’ll be able to finish up the year healthy. It’s very important for me to go out there and pitch healthy. I don’t want to go out there and not give my team a chance to win.”

The New York Mets put right-hander Pete Harnisch on the disabled list because of a torn muscle in his throwing shoulder.
