SYLMAR — A North Hills teen-ager was in critical condition Sunday after being shot in the head by an unknown assailant while riding in a car in Sylmar, police and hospital officials said.
Jesus Obeseo, 18, was a passenger in a car traveling near Gladstone Avenue and Hubbard Street at 4:28 a.m., when gunshots were fired at the car from a dark-colored minivan, Los Angeles police said.
Obeseo, who police said was transported to Holy Cross Medical Center in Missions Hills by a companion, remained in intensive care late Sunday, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The motive for the shooting was unknown, said Lt. Steve Keyser, watch commander at the LAPD’s Foothill Division.
Obeseo had no known gang affiliations, although others in the car with him were gang members, said Sgt. Bob Tumas.
