Irvine Valley Women Set for Debut

The debut of the Irvine Valley women’s basketball program highlights the start of the community college men’s and women’s basketball season.
The Cypress men play their first game at 4 p.m. today against Miramar Naval Air Station in a first-round game in the Barstow tournament.
The Irvine Valley women play their first game at home at 7 p.m. Friday against Southwestern. The team is coached by Lisa McNamee.
The Irvine Valley men, under first-year Coach Jerry Hernandez, is at Southwestern at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Hernandez is one of several new coaches. Tim Sweeney takes over the Fullerton men’s team for Roger See, who is on sabbatical, and Ray Rodriguez steps in at Rancho Santiago while Dana Pagett takes a year off.
On the women’s side, Joni Easterly is in her first year at Fullerton and Jim Greenfield replaces Dick Stricklin at Golden West. Stricklin is on sabbatical.
