ORANGE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: PREP EXTRA : Records Fall in Saddleback Victory Over Ocean View

HUNTINGTON BEACH — Ocean View quarterback Jeff Taylor passed for 422 yards, the second highest total in county history, but Saddleback scored a 49-34 victory in a Golden West League game Thursday at Huntington Beach High.

The county record is 477 yards by Mike Willes of Fullerton in a 1981 game against San Bernardino.

Saddleback’s Joseph Tagaloa set a school record of 274 yards rushing. He also scored four touchdowns, but the Roadrunners (3-6-1, 2-2-1) fell short of qualifying for a playoff berth because Westminster beat Santa Ana, 20-0, Thursday.

Ocean View wide receiver Danny Bowan caught seven passes from Taylor for a school-record 230 yards, including touchdown receptions of 49 and 34 yards.

Tagaloa, a 5-foot-6, 159-pound sophomore, scored his first of four touchdowns in the second quarter on a 21-yard run and added scoring runs of 50, 1 and 9 yards. He also scored a two-point conversion and intercepted a pass on Ocean View’s final possession of the game.

Saddleback’s David Pedroza rushed for 103 yards, including two touchdowns. The second came on a 29-yard run with 2:07 left in the game to clinch the victory.

Ted Norman scored on a two-yard run in the first quarter for Ocean View (3-7, 1-4), and later on a 16-yard pass from Taylor midway through the third quarter.

Taylor accounted for four touchdowns, three passing and the last on a seven-yard run with 5:52 left in the game to bring the Seahawks within seven.
