Align-Rite International Inc. posted a 74% jump in net income on a 25% increase in sales for the second quarter that ended Sept. 30.
The Burbank company, which makes precision quartz or glass plates used by semiconductor makers to transfer circuit patterns onto silicon wafers, earned $1.2 million in the latest quarter, up from a $706,000 profit a year earlier. Quarterly sales rose to $8 million, up from $6.4 million last year.
For the six-month period, the company’s net income grew 40% to $2.3 million, up from $1.6 million a year ago, while sales rose 25% to $15.7 million, up from $12.6 million.
The company said its growth was due largely to five new customers it had developed since Align-Rite went public in July. To meet additional demand the company is expanding its production capacity by 25%.
