CLEVELAND — Searchers used sonar, diving gear and boats Monday to look for three people missing in Lake Erie after a twin-engine plane crashed and sank. Two others were rescued.
The plane sank in 35 feet of water Sunday about 2 1/2 miles north of Burke Lakefront Airport.
Divers found clothing and other debris but had not located the plane, Coast Guard officers said.
Witnesses said the Beechcraft Baron was on fire when it went down about seven minutes after taking off from the airport. It was still afloat when a Coast Guard boat reached the scene Sunday and rescued two men, but it quickly sank, said airport commissioner Mike Barth. One man was hospitalized in critical condition.
