Re “A Policy That Punishes American Ingenuity,” Opinion, Nov. 19: Kudos to David Friedman for exposing the scandalous behavior of Commerce Secretary Ronald Brown and Commissioner Bruce Lehman.
Presumably these gentlemen believe they have acted in the best U.S. interests. Their actions in cutting a lopsided deal in favor of the Japanese on patent protection will only undercut American inventors and American technological superiority, possibly disastrously. Our representatives and senators should reverse the Brown-Lehman accords before we end up in the role of a Third World country, grateful to accept technology scraps from Japan!
