Brazil Wholesaler Using ACT System in Linkup

A Brazilian grocery wholesaler will install a 33-site computer linkup using a system produced by ACT Networks Inc. of Camarillo.

The South American company, Martins, is a distributor of groceries and sundries with annual revenues of more than $1 billion.

Martins’ new relay network will use ACT’s Integrated Frame Relay Access Devices system.

The Camarillo company did not disclose the monetary value of the project, but said the network will carry voice, fax and data via both land-based and satellite facilities.

“The new network will allow Martins to communicate between all of its locations without the expensive toll charges normally associated with long-distance telecommunications,” said Andre de Fusco, ACT’s vice president of marketing. “We have found that, in this type of network, pay-back is usually realized in less than one year.”

ACT said the integration of voice and fax communications should cut toll charges by about 35%. The linkup is designed to allow the Brazilian wholesaler to control costs by more closely tracking its inventories.

The project is scheduled for completion in April. The network will be installed by Promon, a Brazilian reseller of telecommunications products.
