Texas Tech officials had no comment Monday on the availability for the Copper Bowl on Dec. 27 of seven players arrested during a party a day earlier for what police described as a near-riot.
Those arrested were redshirt freshman defensive back Corey Turner, who threw the party, sophomore flanker Stacy Mitchell, sophomore split end Sheldon Bass, redshirt freshman tailback Phillip Hayes, freshman linebacker Ty Ardoin, freshman defensive end Taurus Rucker, and junior cornerback Kenny Haywood.
All were charged with misdemeanors.

Ohio State running back Eddie George won the Doak Walker Award, presented annually to the nation’s top running back. . . . Louisiana Tech Coach Joe Raymond Peace was fired and replaced by offensive coordinator Gary Crowton. Peace, 50, had been coach of the Bulldogs for the last eight years, guiding the program from Division I-AA to I-A status. The Bulldogs this season were 5-6 overall and 2-4 in the Big West Conference.
