Kudos for City Crew Who Did a Good Job

* At 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, I discovered that the night’s rainstorm had “trunk-cated” the tree on my curb section.
About 7:40 a.m., I phoned the Ventura City Parks-Tree Maintenance line to notify them of the 15-foot branch fallen along my curb. By 8 a.m., a crew had shown up to remove the offending limb, and the job was completed expeditiously and efficiently by 8:15 a.m.
In these times of so much trash-mouthing of government and government workers and taxes--a lot of it done by some elected officials themselves, not to mention all the would-be elected hopefuls--I want to go on record as saying that a lot of us taxpayers (maybe most of us) are pleased with the ongoing services our city, state and federal government provide.
Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. wrote: “Taxes are the price we pay for civilized society.”
We get what we pay for. I certainly did that Wednesday morning.
My thanks to all the staff in Parks-Tree Maintenance and to all those other workers who I just didn’t happen to need on Dec. 13.
