Penny Marshall Makes Deal With Universal: MCA Inc. said its Universal Pictures unit reached a three-year first-look production agreement with Penny Marshall’s Parkway Productions Inc. Under the agreement, Parkway will produce feature films as well as develop projects that Marshall will direct. Marshall directed such films as “Big,” “A League of Their Own,” “Awakenings” and “Renaissance Man,” and she was the executive producer of “Calendar Girl.” She starred in the “Laverne & Shirley” TV series and has appeared in numerous other TV shows and feature films, including “Get Shorty,” “Hocus Pocus,” “The Hard Way” and “Movers and Shakers.” Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. MCA is a division of Montreal-based Seagram Co., a global beverage producer with interests in entertainment and communications.
