The Cal State Northridge football team received commitments Thursday from Arcadia High offensive linemen Ryan Mitulski and Brian Hubinger.
Mitulski, a 6-foot-5, 305-pound two-time All-Pacific League tackle, and Hubinger, a 6-5, 245-pound guard, are expected to sign national letters of intent Wednesday, the first day of the NCAA signing period.
Mitulski, who was named league lineman of the year following the Apaches’ 10-2 season, said he chose Northridge because of its “spectacular” business school.
Hubinger also was an all-league selection and started at defensive tackle. He plans to major in pre-med and has received a scholar-athlete award from the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame.
“They’re both two really big kids that we can build our offense around for the future,” Northridge assistant Kendall Blackburn said. “They played against Muir and Pasadena, good teams that had a lot of speed.”
Basketball
An investigation by the Oxnard Union High School District into recruiting allegations against Oxnard High girls’ Coach Ryle Lynch-Cole was completed Thursday, but results will not be released until next week, Superintendent Bill Studt said.
All seven of Lynch-Cole’s rival coaches in the Channel League signed a letter sent two weeks ago to district trustees alleging the Oxnard coach recruited players from other schools.
“We need to digest what this report says and discuss it with [Southern Section Commissioner] Dean Crowley before making it public,” Studt said.
Wednesday night’s boys’ game between Royal and Thousand Oaks, postponed because of a power outage, has been rescheduled for Monday at 7:30 p.m.
Soccer
Karen Hellyer, Southern Section assistant commissioner, said Thursday that Highland High has appealed a decision by Golden League principals to replay a Jan. 9 boys’ soccer match between the Bulldogs and Quartz Hill.
Highland won that match, 2-0, but the principals ordered it replayed after Quartz Hill Coach Mike Kuper protested that an official had misapplied the rules and affected the outcome.
Hellyer said she will pass the appeal on to Southern Section Commissioner Dean Crowley.
Hellyer said in 12 years of overseeing soccer she could not recall a school appealing a league ruling on a match.
Shaun Callahan, a former striker at Buena High and an All-Western State Conference selection last season at Santa Barbara College, has committed to UC Irvine.
