Oxnard Should Heed Chinese Proverb
* I recently participated in a Town Hall meeting held in Oxnard concerning community violence. Although it was attended by a good number of concerned citizens, youth and adult, I walked away with a couple of questions. First, how come more people did not show up? Second, would the words and thoughts expressed as solutions be undertaken by this community in crisis?
Crisis, a Chinese proverb suggests, offers two things: danger and opportunity. Unless we want to see the danger continue in this epidemic cycle of killing, this community must take the opportunity to become just that--a community.
We must all take ownership of the problem and then be responsible for the solution that should involve those we easily blame. Oh, one more thing: Let us be kinder to one another.
