* Re “Controller’s Forceful Agenda Fuels Speculation on Run for Governor,” Jan. 31:
State Controller Kathleen Connell talks tough about stripping state government of waste and inefficiency, she wants to examine the state bureaucracy from top to bottom, she wants to shed government programs that don’t work or that no longer meet a need or demand on the part of the public, and she thinks it’s time for someone with a business background to come into office and really focus on an economic agenda for California.
But wait a minute, Connell is a Democrat! Are we being seriously deceived here?

* Re Times Connell article: For years the words used to describe brisk, confident, strong, elected women were “shrill” and “vindictive.” I see new ones have been added: “excessive ambition.” When have Bob Dole, Phil Gramm, Pete Wilson, Gray Davis, etc., been accused of excessive ambition?
