Telecom Venture to Target German Market: British Telecommunications, RWE and Viag said they will be equal partners in a joint venture targeting the No. 2 position after Deutsche Telekom in Germany’s $47-billion telecommunications market. The new company would create a network reaching 80% of the country’s population and would sell a range of services to consumers and businesses. Germany will remove barriers on some telecommunications services this year and completely open the market by 1998. The companies plan to spend $2 billion to $2.7 billion on telecommunications infrastructure and services by 2000.
