Russians Confirm Aircraft Deal With China: The government said it is resuming sales of its high-performance Su-27 fighter jets to China as part of a deal that will let China make the warplanes in the future. The deal’s timing is seen as particularly significant given the growing tension between China and Taiwan. Later this year, Taiwan will begin taking delivery of 150 American F-16 fighters and 60 French Mirage-2000 fighter-bombers. China has been pressuring Moscow to transfer Su-27 technology to its aerospace industries, but the Russians had balked until payment terms for the planes were settled in late 1995.
