The man prosecutors call Ventura County’s worst “deadbeat dad” was arrested in Denver on charges of failing to make support payments for his three children in Newbury Park, the prosecutors announced Wednesday.
Larry Lee Roberts, arrested at a friend’s business by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, has already served a seven-month term in the Ventura County Jail for failing to make $237,000 in support payments.
Sentenced last March, he was released from jail Oct. 15, moved to Colorado and continued to neglect payments for his three children--ages 15, 16 and 18--who live with their mother in Newbury Park, according to the Ventura County district attorney’s office.
Prosecutors have filed charges against Roberts, who now owes more than $260,000 in child support. He is being held at the Denver County Jail on $50,000 bail.
He is expected to be transferred to the Ventura County Jail. If he is convicted, he could be sentenced to one year and a day in the California State Prison, prosecutors said.
