A man who stole a tractor in Santa Ana on Wednesday morning led Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies on a brief chase at speeds that never quite exceeded 7 mph, police said.
Erly Cadu is suspected of stealing the tractor from a construction site near the Santa Ana and Garden Grove freeway interchange. He drove the tractor to La Mirada, where he was spotted by sheriff’s deputies going westbound on Firestone Boulevard near Valley View Street at 12:30 p.m., police said.
The tractor, which caused $12,000 worth of damage to several fences and block walls, was heading toward a crowded shopping center in La Mirada when Sheriff’s Deputy Steven Robinson got out of his patrol car, jumped onto the tractor and stopped it.
Cadu was booked at Norwalk police station on suspicion of grand theft auto and felony vandalism. His bail was set at $20,000.
