ADM Faces More Than 85 Suits: Archer-Daniels-Midland Co. faces the lawsuits in state and federal courts nationwide following revelations of a government antitrust investigation into the food-additives industry. In a filing this week with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Decatur, Ill.-based ADM said the suits arose after the Justice Department’s June announcement of a price-fixing probe into ADM and other makers of the livestock feed additive lysine, citric acid and high-fructose corn syrup. “The company and individual defendants named in the action . . . intend to vigorously defend themselves unless they can be settled on terms deemed acceptable to the parties,” said ADM, one of the world’s biggest agribusiness companies.
