VENTURA — For the fifth year in a row, Ventura College’s wide selection of swimming lessons and aquatic fitness courses has been chosen as the nation’s top community college water fitness program by the United States Water Fitness Assn.
In a broader competition with four-year universities, public programs such as the YMCA, and private health clubs, the college’s aquatics instruction ranked in the top 100.
“We feel we have a good program here,” said Cheryl Holt, aquatics coordinator at the college. “Our program is seeing a large number of people for everything from swimming to deep-water running.”
The rankings are based on the diversity of programs and the number of people serviced.
The water fitness association is a nonprofit group that encourages the development of aquatics programs.
Ventura College offers 42 adult water fitness classes each fall and spring and 28 classes in the summer.
