Jamal Lawrence scored 19 points, 15 in the final six minutes, to lead Oregon to a 60-58 come-from-behind victory over California on Thursday night at Eugene, Ore.
California, 13-8 overall, 7-5 in the Pacific 10 Conference, led by as many as 14 points early in the second half, but Oregon (12-11, 5-7) fought back.
Lawrence, who scored only four points in the first half and missed six of his first seven shots, started his scoring barrage with 5:54 remaining when he connected on a three-point shot to cut the lead to 50-47.
Lawrence made his next three three-point shots and made three of four free throws down the stretch as the Ducks took a 59-56 advantage with 1:19 left.
Shareef Abdur-Rahim, the leading scorer in the Pac-10 at 23.1 points per game, was held to a career-low 10 points on five-of-15 shooting. The freshman forward missed all three of his free throws.
Cal made only two of 12 three-point shots and 21 of 59 field goals (35.6%). The Golden Bears had defeated the Ducks, 97-72, on Jan. 20 at Berkeley.
No. 20 Stanford 65, Oregon State 50--Brevin Knight scored 15 points and Andy Poppink 13 to lead the Cardinal at Corvallis, Ore.
The Cardinal (16-5, 9-3) overcame the Beavers’ deliberate, ball-control style to win its sixth game in a row and ninth out of 10.
Oregon State (3-18, 1-11) lost its 10th in a row and scored only six points in a remarkable 20-minute, 45-second stretch in the game’s midsection. By the time the drought ended, Stanford had a 44-21 lead with 10:43 to play.
Stanford increased the lead to 24 and wasn’t threatened again as Coach Mike Montgomery went mostly with reserves the rest of the way.
