Norwegians, Not Brits Were First to the Pole

A good story about Borge Ousland’s solo attempt to cross Antarctica (Feb. 7) was marred only by a small inaccuracy. Robert Scott knew Roald Amundsen had beaten him to the Pole as the British party found a Norwegian flag, a tent and a note when they reached there on Jan. 18, 1912. Amundsen’s party reached the Pole a month earlier, on Dec. 14, 1911.
Thanks for this kind of story--history is always fascinating.
