A British Airways study found that the two things people missed most the air were hot toast and freshly made espresso. So BA decided to put espresso makers and toasters on its planes.
Easier said than done. Because of space and weight considerations, the espresso machines had to be redesigned--made into carry-on size, as it were. For the toaster, a special flap was developed to cover it in case the bread starts to burn.
Next year all 90 long-haul BA aircraft will have espresso and toast. It will be tested in first class and extended to Club World and World Traveler classes if successful.
