Schools : Education news : Five on OCC Faculty Get Creativity Grants

Orange Coast College’s faculty fellowship committee has awarded five grants to carry out creative ideas that can be implemented immediately to upgrade the quality of education.
The recipients are faculty members Karen Shanley, Lionel G. Caron, Jay R. Yett, Phylise Smith and Silvia J. Impert. Shanley, a professor of dance, received $800 to develop an instruction manual for OCC’s dance certificate program, which trains students to teach modern, ballet, jazz and tap.
Caron, an electronic media instructor, received $800 to develop four crash-course tutorials to train students on new electronic media software.
Yett, an assistant professor of geology, was given $775 to research the effects of sewage on marine microorganisms off the coast of Huntington Beach. The results of the research will be used as instructional material in a geology course titled “Evolution of the Earth.”
To add to diversity to her ethnic dance course, Smith, a dance instructor, was given $400 to hire guest speakers with diverse backgrounds.
Impert, a professor of photography, received $386 to produce color design prints from several different local computer graphic service bureaus.
