Confusion surrounded last-minute preparations for elections to end military rule in Sierra Leone, but poll organizers said today’s voting would go ahead. The country’s warring parties meanwhile ended their first peace talks without accord on a rebel demand for the elections to be delayed or the government call for a cease-fire. Government representatives and rebels said in a communique after talks in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, that they had agreed to meet again Wednesday.
