El Modena, Senior
Soccer/Forward
As one of El Modena’s top two scorers, Whitfield draws plenty of attention from opposing defenses, often to no avail. “If you’re a defender--it’s like guarding Michael Jordan--it’s impossible, you can’t stop her for a whole game,” Coach Jeff Pearson said. Saturday, for example, El Modena trailed, 2-1, late in a Division II quarterfinal against Alta Loma before Whitfield got free to score two goals. Alta Loma sent the game into overtime, but Whitfield scored with one minute left in sudden death for a 4-3 victory. Whitfield who has 31 goals this season to tie Nicole Terry for the team lead, also had two goals and an assist in a 5-2 victory over Long Beach Poly.
