Weekend Box Office : ‘Fargo’ and ‘The Postman’ Cash In

Two films that did not make the weekend’s Top 10 scored surprise results. Gramercy’s “Fargo,” in its second week of release, was headed for a gross of $914,202, or about $15,760-per-screen average on 58 screens. Also, the Italian-language “The Postman (Il Postino),” which is nominated for best picture, actor, director and screenplay Oscars, was having its best weekend yet in its 40-week run. The Miramax film, starring the late Massimo Troisi and Philippe Noiret, grossed $729,550 on 347 screens, which equates to $2,102 per screen.
