Woodbridge Edges West Covina in the Ninth

Lizzy Lemire’s run-scoring double in the bottom of the ninth inning gave Woodbridge a 1-0 victory over West Covina Saturday in the Woodbridge Classic softball tournament.
Lemire’s double drove in Ashley Boone from second base as the fourth-ranked Warriors (14-3) advanced to the championship quarterfinals, which continue this Saturday at Harvard Park.
Christy Robitaille (10-2) struck out 11 and matched loser Angela Veronesi’s four-hitter.
In another tournament game:
Huntington Beach 8, San Clemente 4--Winning pitcher Jessica Walker was four for four, scored and had an RBI, and Celea Kroeker had two hits and two RBIs for the sixth-ranked Oilers (12-5), who play Woodbridge in the quarterfinals. Walker had seven hits in the Oilers’ two tournament games. San Clemente is 12-4.
In the Big West baseball tournament:
Servite 12, Trabuco Hills 11--Servite scored six runs in the bottom of the seventh on five walks, a two-run double by Marty Hayes and a game-winning, two-run single by Alvan Loreto.
In the Pride of the Coast baseball tournament:
Corona del Mar 6, West Hills Chaminade 5 (8)--Trailing by a run, Corona del Mar (9-4) tied the score on Ryan Achterberg’s triple. Bryan Bear then singled home Achterberg with the winning run.
Huntington Beach runner sets county marks--Jess Strutzel of Huntington Beach earned two county top marks when he won the 800 meters in 1 minute 54.58 seconds and placed third in the 400 meters with a lifetime best of 48.60 in a meet in Oakland.
