ValuJet to Halt Expansion: ValuJet Inc. said it will stop its expansion this spring and summer, partly because of the approach of the Olympic Games and partly because of heightened federal regulatory scrutiny. Earlier this year, the FAA conducted an intensive seven-day investigation of ValuJet’s operations. The company had five incidents in January and February, including three planes going off runways, one broken landing gear and one plane damaging its tail section after hitting the runway during landing. Last month, an emergency chute deployed on a ValuJet plane as it rolled back from the terminal gate.
