In other Pride of the Coast games:
Fountain Valley 10, Costa Mesa 0--Winning pitcher Steve Schenewerk improved to 8-1 for Fountain Valley (14-4), ranked second in the county, in the third-place game.
Corona del Mar 13, Torrance Bishop Montgomery 0--Kevin Stuart hit two home runs and had three RBIs for host Corona del Mar (11-5) in the fifth-place game.
In the Chino tournament:
Mission Viejo 2, La Verne Damien 1--Chris Willmer had a no-hitter through six innings and pitched a one-hitter with four strikeouts for Mission Viejo (5-9).
In the Century League:
Villa Park 8, Canyon 6--With one out and the score tied, 6-6, Villa Park’s Greg Granito hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh off reliever Jeff Leuenberger to help the Spartans (8-7-1, 3-3) upset the host Comanches (13-3, 5-1), ranked fifth in the county.
Jason Spainhower and winning pitcher Ryan Ferguson (2-2) combined to give up only five hits three earned runs and struck out seven. Brandon Carter had two hits and an RBI for Villa Park.
In the Empire League:
Katella 6, Kennedy 5--Joe Fraser pitched a three-hitter with eight strikeouts for Katella (13-4, 5-1).
Loara 9, Century 0--Senior Aaron Koontz pitched a no-hitter, striking out 12 and walking one for Loara (10-6, 2-4). Right fielder Shane Milligan kept Century hitless with a diving catch to start the sixth inning.
In the Golden West League:
Saddleback 5, Santa Ana 4 (10)--Saddleback’s Frankie Gonzalez reached on an error in the 10th and scored the winning run on a base hit by Juan Cabral.
In nonleague boys’ swimming:
Santa Margarita 101, Villa Park 63--Second-ranked Santa Margarita defeated No. 7 Villa Park. Phillipe Demers won the 100 freestyle in 48.68 seconds for the Eagles.
In nonleague girls’ swimming:
Santa Margarita 89, Villa Park 80--The Eagles upset sixth-ranked Villa Park as Siobhan Herlihy led the way with victories in the 200 (1:59.52) and 500 freestyle (5:33.21).
