Planning Panel Rates Five Housing Projects
- Share via
Five housing projects that together would create 127 homes in Thousand Oaks received ratings Monday from the city’s Planning Commission, part of the annual process of competing for development allotments.
Each year, the city rates projects based on criteria such as their impact on the surrounding environment, accessibility to the handicapped and adherence to zoning standards. Those ratings are then used to determine which projects will be granted development allotments during the year.
By controlling the number of allotments, the city can control the pace of its growth.
This year, planning commissioners, acting as the city’s Residential Development Evaluation Board, rated four projects south of the Ventura Freeway in Newbury Park and one between Westlake Boulevard and Erbes Road in Thousand Oaks.
The City Council is scheduled to review the ratings at its May 14 meeting and use them to grant development allotments. This year, 146 allotments are available--more than the total number of houses proposed--so each of the five projects is expected to receive the requested number of allotments.
