Re “Menendez Brothers Sentenced to Life for Killing Parents,” April 18: The jury chose to show mercy to two brutal and unrepentant murderers who themselves never showed a scintilla of mercy. They are getting far better than they gave, far better than they deserve. Now the public must endure 50 or 60 years of carefully constructed rationalization. I think we deserve better!

* What has happened to Lyle and Erik Menendez and their family and loved ones is a terrible tragedy. For The Times to publish the cartoon by Chip Bok on the Commentary page of April 18 is not only grossly distasteful, it is disgusting. Shame on you!

* First their parents paid all their expenses for years and gave them food, clothing and shelter. Now the taxpayers will shoulder that burden for many decades to come. Throughout the entire course of their lives, these two unrepentant brats never have to take responsibility for themselves. What a “justice” system.
