Melanie Richardson
SCHOOL: Camarillo
SPORT: Softball
YEAR: Senior
SEASON AT A GLANCE: Richardson, a right-hander, is tough to hit and even tougher to beat. She has a record of 5-1 and 85 strikeouts, allowing only 11 hits and two earned runs in 48 innings. Her older sister, Laura, led Camarillo to a Southern Section title in 1991.
WEEK AT A GLANCE: Richardson pitched a pair of one-hit shutouts, beating Westlake and Crossroads. She struck out nine in a 2-0 Marmonte League victory over Westlake and followed that with a 14-strikeout performance to beat Crossroads, 1-0, in pool play of the Thousand Oaks tournament. “Half of those strikeouts were on her changeup,” Camarillo Coach Nichole Victoria said. “Her change is working so well right now.”
