The Laguna Art Museum’s sale in New York on Tuesday of photographer John Outerbridge’s platinum print “Saltine Box” set a record for work by the artist--$200,500, once buyers’ premiums were added by Christie’s auction house.
The premiums (15% on the first $50,000 and 10% on the balance) increased Christie’s total sale of Outerbridge works Tuesday to $1,063,180. “Ide Collar” went for a buyer’s price of $189,500. “Images de Deauville” set a record for a Carbro print, $96,000 including the premium. The gelatin silver print of two nude figures from the Pageant of the Masters in Laguna Beach brought $6,900. Of 36 Outerbridge photos offered for sale, 29 were purchased.
