The City Council on Wednesday appropriated $38,000 for an Intermodal Transit Center at the Chatsworth Metrolink Station, which will serve as a hub for trains, buses, taxicabs, shuttles and bicycles.
“We’re really trying to provide as many different kinds of transportation as we can,” said Francine Oschin, assistant chief of staff for City Councilman Hal Bernson.
At the station, which celebrated its grand opening Saturday, commuters will find electric vehicle plugs, bike lockers and a shuttle van to take them directly to work. The funding will go toward construction of bus bays and advertising, among other things, Oschin said.
The depot will also have a child-care center, history museum and various shops.
“People will really have a one-stop center over there that will fill a lot of their, not only transit needs, but needs for the community to make life more pleasant in the northwest Valley,” Oschin said.
The Metropolitan Transit Authority has awarded $125,000 to the project. The city will provide $38,000 in matching funds.
