Hoernig Takes It Higher in Pole Vault

Foothill junior Erica Hoernig won the pole vault with a county record 11 feet in a Century League girls’ track and field double dual meet Wednesday at Foothill High.
Foothill defeated Canyon, 108-28, but lost to El Modena, 76-60.
Hoernig’s mark betters the county record she set Saturday at the Orange County Championships (10 feet 9 inches). The record has been bettered three times in the past two weeks. The previous record was held by Marina sophomore Katie Rorem (10-6).
Katie Kennedy of El Modena posted the fastest times in the 1,600 meters (5:32.2) and 3,200 (12:03.9) among all four teams.
El Modena, Foothill, Canyon and Orange all competed in this meet to make up for several rained out meets.
In the Empire League:
Katella 97, Cypress 30--Nancy Pinto won the 1,600 and 3,200 for the host Knights as they finished the dual-meet season undefeated in league.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 91, Costa Mesa 45--Nicole Burke and Tayaiba Haneef each won two events for the host Hawks. Burke won the 200 (26.6) and the long jump (15-3 1/2) and Haneef won the high jump (5-4) and the shotput (30-8).
In the Sea View League:
Woodbridge 81, El Toro 55--Jackie Dix and Heaven Yoshino each won two events for the visiting Warriors, who finished the dual-meet season undefeated in league. Dix won the 100 (13.1) and 200 (26.3) and Yoshino placed first in the 400 (1:00.1) and in the 300 hurdles (46.8).
In the South Coast League:
Trabuco Hills 71, San Clemente 65--Darnesha Griffith of Trabuco Hills won the high jump (5-0), long jump (16-10 1/4), and triple jump (35-0). Alex McCarten won the 100 and 300 hurdles for host San Clemente.
In the Sunset League:
Edison 82, Esperanza 54--Kerry O’Bric won the 100 (12.5) and 200 (25.9) and Marie Philman won the 100 hurdles (15.3), high jump (5-0) and discus (131-5) for visiting Edison (10-0, 5-0). O’Bric and Philman have placed themselves among the top-10 performers this season in seven events.
Edison which won its 59th consecutive dual meet and won its first ever Orange County Championship this past Saturday has not lost a dual meet since 1990.
Fountain Valley 99, Huntington Beach 29--Sophomore Jennifer Drilling won the 100 (12.9) and the long jump (15-3).
In Empire League boys’ track and field:
Katella 91, Cypress 36--Charles Crook won the 100 (11.1) and 200 (23.0) for Katella, which finished an undefeated dual-meet league season.
In the Sea View League:
El Toro 100, Woodbridge 36--Junior Elliott Parks won the high jump (6-4), long jump (21-11) and triple jump (44-5) for the host Chargers. El Toro, which won the team title at Orange County Championships this past Saturday, won all but three events.
