Watchdog Group Refers Tylenol Ad to FTC: The National Advertising Division of the Better Business Bureau has referred to the Federal Trade Commission for investigation a commercial in which Johnson & Johnson says that Extra Strength Tylenol may be “a better choice” for people with ulcers. American Home Products, maker of Advil, had requested the voluntary review. The commercial, featuring two truck drivers, is one in a series of TV spots in which Advil and Tylenol have traded attacks. TV networks recently pulled an Advil spot in which an announcer reads a warning about alcohol on the Tylenol label. Johnson & Johnson said in a statement it believes Advil’s complaint doesn’t fall within the division’s jurisdiction because it runs counter to a court ruling in an earlier lawsuit on the same subject.
